The cracks are starting to appear

As you can see, the pond is drying well, even though we have had some rain during the last couple of nights.

Pond base cracking

The ponds are designed to drain completely which means that even when it rains, they don’t get waterlogged. The wind, frost and sunshine that we have had over the last couple of weeks is all having a good effect on the drained mud ponds and these cracks will allow air to reach beneath the top layer of mud.

As time goes by, the cracks will become larger and deeper and the mud will harden, creating a nice hard base to the pond which will remain even after it has been filled with water again.
